There has been a DIRTcar Late Model Western Region point’s race added to the schedule at Lamar Speedway on Saturday, August 6th. We need all of the late model drivers in Colorado to come support this race. We only have a few tracks in Colorado that are willing to give late models a place to race so we need to have as many cars as we can at this race.

There will also be a Limited Late Model race at Phillips County Speedway on Sunday, August 7th. We will be able to get two late model races in on one weekend in the state of Colorado. This doesn’t happen very often so let’s show our support.

If we can get good car counts at these races we might be able to get some CLMA DIRTcar Series races at these tracks in 2012. I hope to see everyone at the track.

Performance Automotive and Lamar Auto Parts (our local NAPA Parts Store) have joined with the Championship Late Model Association (CLMA) to bring Dirtcar Late Models to Lamar. With a big live show at the Speedway Saturday night August 6th, we will take the opportunity to promote the Fair Boards Concert for Sunday, August 7th plus the World Series and Fair Schedules for the week.

1. It will be a double feature night, because the feature races for July 23rd. were rained out. Those will have to be run first.

2. Anyone wearing a wristband from the World Series will get $2.00 off of the $10.00 adult admission price.

3. There will be Jr. Fan Club kid’s activities and they are FREE.

4. Admission; Children 5 and under are Free. ~ 6-12 are $4.00~ Adults are $10.00 ~ Seniors are $ 8.00. Pit Passes are $ 25.00 regardless of age.

5. The Speedway is located 1 ½ miles east of the Big Timbers Museum on Hwy 196.

This will be the first race in Colorado this year for the Super Late Models. The Limited Late Models run at several tracks. We don’t have these race cars in Lamar. All of these cars come from out of town and out of state. They run about 850 horse power engines and are truly the big boy’s of dirt track racing. It should be a real good show. It’s the Racing Club’s hope that the World Series and The Sand and Sage Roundup are big successes this year and that this will help to get the Late Models racing here each summer.

Boat Ramps - 8/3/2011

Due to lake being lowered for irrigation, only the east boat ramp is open and the dock has been pulled. The ramp has a shallow slope and launching will be difficult for low profile vehicles and/or large boats. Park in parking lots only, not along the ramp. All gas-powered vessels (including jet skis) must be inspected before launching. The ANS inspection station will be open Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Boating - 8/3/2011

Low water alert- not all hazards are marked. High speed travel (boats on plane) not recommended west of the Point Overlook area due to the growing shallow west end. All gas-powered vessels (including jet skis) must be inspected before launching.

Camping - 8/3/2011

All the sites in the Lake Hasty Campground are open. Due to budget cuts, Point campground is closed and not available this summer. Flush toilets, pay showers, potable water and dump station is all available at Lake Hasty Campground.

Fire Restrictions - 8/3/2011

Fire danger very high. No open fires or any fireworks allowed at John Martin or in Bent County per the orders of the Bent County Commissioneers. This includes all the grills and fire rings in the State Park. Use of propane stoves and grills is permitted.

Fishing Report - 8/3/2011

A few catfish are still being caught in the Spillway, on the north side. Not many big ones lately, but good eating size of 1 to 2 pounds Not many people fishing the lake lately due to the heat. Mornings and late evenings seem to be better.

Hunting - 8/3/2011

No hunting is permitted on the state park but is available on the John Martin State Wildlife Area just minutes from our Lake Hasty Campground. John Martin is a great place for your hunting camp! OHV riding is NOT permitted on John Martin Reservoir State Park or on the adjoining John Martin Reservoir State Wildlife Area.

Road Conditions - 8/3/2011

All main park roads are open. We ask that all visitors remain on maintained roads within the park, especially in the burned area. Please help protect our vegetation and wildlife. OHV riding is NOT permitted on John Martin Reservoir State Park or on the adjoining John Martin Reservoir State Wildlife Area.

Seasonal Closures - 8/3/2011

Due to budget cuts, visitor center is open 9-5 all days, and a little later on Friday night.

Swimming Conditions - 8/3/2011

Swimbeach is now open during daylight hours. Colorado State Parks swimbeaches do not have life guards on duty. Swim at your own risk. Children must be supervised by adults at all times. Due to low water levels and higher temperatures, the swim area has some moss growing in it.

Water Levels - 8/3/2011

3796.6 elevation(11,200 ac/ft) and dropping about 1 inch a day due to irriagation needs. The lake hasn't been this low since the summer of 2006. East ramp is open for launching, but low profile vehicles or deep drafting boats may have difficulty launching. * severe thunderstorm warning for, southeastern kiowa county in southeast colorado, prowers county in southeast colorado... * until 1015 PM MDT

* at 907 PM MDT, National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a
line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing golf ball size
hail, and destructive winds in excess of 70 mph. these storms
were located along a line extending from queens reservoir to 12
miles south of lamar, and moving east at 35 mph.

* locations impacted include, lamar, bristol, granada, hartman, holly and towner.

these storms have exhibited some weak rotation. tornadoes can develop
quickly from severe thunderstorms. although one is not immediately
likely, if a tornado is spotted, act quickly and move to a place of
safety inside a sturdy structure, such as a basement or small
interior room.

* at 600 PM MDT, National Weather Service doppler radar indicated a
line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing ping pong ball size hail, and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph. these storms were located along a line extending from 7 miles northwest of springfield to 12 miles southwest of campo, and moving east at 50 mph.

This map is created by merging the 24-hr Storm Total Precipitation (STP) product observed at the National Weather Service WSR-88D Doppler radars at Cheyenne, Wyoming, Denver, Colorado, Pueblo Colorado, Goodland, Kansas and Grand Junction, Colorado.
This map is subject to under-estimation/over-estimation of precipitation amounts due to radar performance issues. However, it is very useful at providing the spatial coverage of the heavy precipitation. It will show all radar areas of rainfall of a trace or more.
